January 22, 2017 USPS Postage Rate Changes - Increases & Decreases
The Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) has approved a United States Postal Service (USPS) rate change which will take effect on January 22, 2017. This rate change includes a mix of both increases and decreases.
Highlights of the approved rate changes are below.
- First Class full postage STAMPED and PERMIT mail INCREASES from $0.470 to $0.490
- First Class full postage METERED mail DECREASES from $0.465 to $0.460
- Presorted First Class 3-digit sortation has been eliminated and rolled into the AADC sortation where the rate INCREASES from $.399 to $.403. The 3-digit and AADC rates have been the same for several years now so the elimination of the 3-digit rate is formality that won't have any change on budgets
- Presorted First Class 5-digit rate DECREASES from $.376 to $.373
- The 2nd ounce of Presorted First Class mail has "riden free" without any surcharge for years and that is now extended to the 3rd ounce up to 3.5 ounces
- Standard Mail is to be rebranded as Marketing Mail
- Marketing Mail Letter pricing increase of 2.0%
- Marketing Mail Flats pricing increase of 2.5%
- Marketing Mail increases piece price weight from 3.3 oz to 4.0 oz. The maximum weight for nonautomation machinable letters moves from 3.3 oz to 3.5 oz
