Meet Brittney Corkum, Lead Machine Operator for PMSI based in Durham, NC who has been with us for two years! She’s got the skills to print the bills (and letters), and we’re so lucky to have her!
“Brittney is an energetic self-starter,” said Lyle Blue, CEO of PMSI. “She is constantly challenging herself to perform her job at a higher level. Brittney is the type of employee you always search for but don’t always find.”
Q: What is your role at PMSI, and what does your job entail?
A: I am the Lead Machine Operator for PMSI. My job involves handling the Pitney machines, which read barcodes, and facilitate the stuffing of envelopes with inserts, letters, and stamps. It’s a fast-paced and precise process.
Q: What do you think makes our printing facility unique?
A: Many people are surprised to learn that my job exists. They don’t realize that machines play a significant role in mailing bills and letters, not just manual labor. It’s a hidden marvel that sets our facility apart.
Q: What advice would you give someone interested in a career in printing?
A: If you enjoy a fast-paced environment and value working with a degree of solitude, printing might be a perfect fit. You get to do your thing at your own pace, but there’s still room for interaction with coworkers.
Q: What is one thing you wish people knew about your job that they probably don’t?
A: The level of complexity involved in my job is often underestimated. The content of mailings constantly changes, and the machines require careful maintenance to function smoothly.
Q: What is your favorite thing about working with your team?
A: I love the open and collaborative atmosphere. We all come up with different ideas, and when challenges arise, like machine breakdowns, my manager and I work together to find solutions. My opinions and insights are valued.
Q: What would you say sets your printing facility apart from the competition?
A: Our strong team and seamless collaboration across departments make us stand out. We work well together, regardless of our positions, which allows us to accomplish tasks efficiently.
Q: What would you say is the most important thing for a client to consider when choosing a printing/mailing partner?
A: Clients should look for a partner who can handle the fast-paced nature of the industry. Postal holidays can double the workload, and they need a partner who can adapt and keep up.
Q: What are some of the things you enjoy most about working with clients in this industry?
A: I don’t work directly with clients, but I appreciate that my managers keep us informed about any changes or updates that could impact our work with the machines.
Q: Tell us about your life outside of work. Family life? Hobbies?
A: I moved here from Maine two years ago, and outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my dogs and roommate. I like exploring new places to eat and visit, immersing myself in the city’s vibrant life.
Q: What do you want people to know about PMSI and how we support the unique challenges of transactional printing and direct mail marketing?
A: PMSI is a solid place to work, and it’s perfect for individuals who want to grow personally and professionally. The work environment is calm and supportive, even during hectic times. We focus on finding effective solutions without unnecessary stress. I’ve learned a lot more than I had anticipated I would working here, and I love that!
As the Lead Machine Operator, Brittney embraces the challenges and rhythm of the printing process, while appreciating the supportive and collaborative culture at PMSI. Beyond her work, she finds joy in exploring new places, mirroring her adventurous spirit both inside and outside the printing facility.
