Read what Victor has to say about PMSI, his job role and his personal life:
Q: What branch did you serve in and how long did you serve?
A: Airforce, engineer, 9 years
Q: What does Veteran’s Day mean to you?
A: People think enough about their country to serve.
Q: What is your role at PMSI and what does your job entail?
A: CTO which entails everything; software architect, database admin, database architect, server manager, firewall manager, security, you name it. All things IT. Help desk. Plumber. You name it.
Q: What do you think makes our printing facility unique?
A: Our Staff. I’ve written all the software and have 3 people in IT that do all the work. Nothing is offshored. CSR answers immediately and we have immediate turnaround. Much more flexible and lean as far as making things happen, rather than waiting for a week for a ticket to be handled. Boutique quality for attention to detail and servicing the customer.
Q: What advice would you give someone who is interested in a career in printing?
A: They would have to be a Swiss army knife person. IT is going to do everything. They will do IRS audits, custom software work, forms, customer service, work out on the production floor as well as in the office. Everybody wears a lot of hats.
Q: What is one thing you wish people knew about your job that they probably don’t?
A: You have to solve the problems – if you’re a problem solver you will have people come to you for answers. I’m involved in everything, not just technology. Our team knows what I do and we work together.
Q: What is your favorite thing about working with your team?
A: That they care.
Q: What would you say sets your printing facility apart from the competition?
A: Our ability to solve customer problems. As an example, a current water bill has 3 files – message, primary data, and history for the graphs. Misnamed files came from the client. We caught the problem, solved it, and made the necessary corrections right away. Our level of responsiveness is almost immediate and in this case, we got the bills out so they could receive payments.. Everyone feels highly responsible for their customer.
Q: What would you say is the most important thing for a client to consider when choosing a printing/mailing partner?
A: They need to consider the cost of doing business. We had a customer leave for lower costs but they had horrible service. That comes with a price tag when bills don’t get out the door.. We are way more flexible because our software is all written in-house. We have no third parties and can deliver better service.
Q: What are some of the things you enjoy most about working with clients in this industry?
A: Solving their problems
Q: What are some of the trends that you are seeing in the printing industry?
A: Cost – everyone is more worried about cost than service. They make the jump for cost instead of focusing on the service and quality. Eventually, most companies realize cost isn’t everything. We are seeing a gravitation towards quality and responsiveness and we have a lot of long-term customers who appreciate these qualities.
Q: Tell us about your life outside of work. Family life? Hobbies?
A: I enjoy sailing and working on cars. I also go snowboarding, flying, and stay active. I really enjoy flying. We are going sailing this weekend so I’m excited for that. I have lots of hobbies. I even have patents and do design and inventing for fun.
Q: What do you want people to know about PMSI and how we support the unique challenges of transactional printing and direct mail marketing?
A: PMSI is unique. We are very boutique in terms of the level of customization we provide. Our ability to handle specialized programming to get the bill out quickly with an eye for design makes us unique. We are super flexible, very fast and customer-centric.
